It's always the same question when someone is planning a renovation, building a villa, or trying to fix an existing issue...
... And within hours the thread fills with names, opinions, conflicting recommendations, and the occasional warning. Some names appear repeatedly. Others appear once and are never mentioned again. It is a functional system. It is also fragile, inconsistent, and entirely dependent on who you happen to know and which groups you happen to follow. Also depends on the way you ask the question, the time of day and the general mood/behavior of the participants... We have been on both sides of this. As people who have hired construction and renovation professionals in Bali, we know what it feels like to navigate that search : — the difficulty of distinguishing between companies with genuine track records and those with good social media presence, — the awkwardness of asking for references in a context where everyone seems connected to everyone, — the moment three months after a project closes when a waterproofed surface starts showing dampness again and there is no clear path back to the person responsible... We have also spoken with professionals on the other side — contractors, architects, interior designers — who do excellent work and struggle to be visible beyond their immediate network. Word of mouth carries only so far. A strong Instagram account requires constant attention. And neither gives a potential client the kind of structured, comparable information they actually need to make a decision.
“The market in Bali is not short of talent. It is short of structure.”
Construction & renovation in Bali attracts significant investment from both residents and newcomers. The relative affordability compared to other markets means people take on projects here they would not attempt back home — larger in scope, more ambitious in design, without necessarily understanding the basic requirements of solid construction here. Newcomers might invest in their first building without any prior knowledge or experience to manage them well and see them through. That combination — higher project ambitions, lower familiarity with how the market works — creates predictable friction. Not because the professionals are worse. Because the information environment is poor. Finding a contractor typically means one of three things: a personal recommendation from someone in your network, a name from a Facebook thread, or a company that appears prominently in Google results because they have invested in their online presence. None of these is a reliable signal of quality. The first depends on your network. The second is unverifiable. The third rewards marketing spend, not craft. For professionals, the inverse problem exists. A company that does careful, quality work and invests in long-term client relationships often has no better visibility than one that does not. The market does not consistently reward quality because quality is hard to see.

Every listing is built around the same intention: clear information, relevant context, honest representation. The platform is built to give people a better starting point — not to make the decision for them. Now, at least, everyone can have visibility in one central place. We are also paying attention to something that does not get enough recognition in Bali's construction market: companies that approach their work with genuine environmental care. The way buildings are built here has a real relationship with the land, the water, and the communities around them. We will be recognising companies that demonstrate that care with a dedicated marker — more on that soon.
“SolidFind is a curated reference directory for construction, renovation, and related professionals in Bali. It is not a marketplace. We do not take commissions, mediate projects, or rank results by who pays the most.”
However, it is to be noted that SolidFind does not verify the quality of work independently. We list companies based on publicly available information and our own research — we do not inspect projects, audit financials, or certify outcomes. The disclaimer on every profile reflects that honestly. The decision is yours. Our job is to make it better informed.
